Kevin Pietersen believes Ben Stokes is being ‘wasted’ in England’s T20 staff after Eoin Morgan’s facet suffered a slender sequence defeat to India.
Stokes endured a subdued sequence, scoring 84 runs in three innings from his No. 6 spot and taking three wickets from 12 overs of bowling.
Pietersen mentioned: ‘Ben Stokes is totally wasted at 6 as a batter and bowling half time. Bairstow in T20’s is an opener. If he doesn’t open, Stokes bats four.’
Former England batsman Rob Key added to Sky Sports activities: ‘They should get extra from Ben Stokes. It’s not like he can’t do it, he was the MVP on the Indian Premier League a number of years in the past.
‘He was the most effective participant throughout that match. He can play T20 cricket. However by some means they should get him extra concerned.
‘It is extremely arduous for Stokes. The those who bat six are Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell who can slog yorkers out of the bottom.
‘I’m unsure Stokes, nearly as good as he’s, can do precisely that however he can bat early on when the sector is up within the powerplay after which destroy sides.
‘He doesn’t strike me as somebody pleased to return in with 5 overs to go at No 6.’
